i have just finished reading harvey walden IV(from celebrity fit club) no excuses fitness plan. its not the greatest book i have read but i do enjoy the exercises i have seen in this book. even bought a stop watch to try it out sometimes, since everything is in 1-3 min. intervals. most of the book is a lot of blah blah about his experiences etc. i guess i just couldn't click with the man b/c he has always been fit his whole life. his parents and grandparents putting him into sports and martial arts at early ages and even taught about learning to meditate and connecting to chi while younger then viola. its hard to relate to somebody whose pretty much been raise to be healthy when i wasn't brought up that way.
but i did want to read his ideas on food, although the book is vague and short on the subject. basically his rule of thumb is your total food intake each meal should not be larger then your hand.notice he says in a sitting so smaller meals are definitely encouraged by him. so hold out your hand fingers SLIGHTLY spread and that should be how much you eat in a sitting. also goes with CUT DOWN NOT CUT OUT. although he admits to only eating a couple bites of cheesecake(screw that if i order cake i am eating the SOB LOL)to satisfy the craving but not overdo. he also encourages non-processed foods and whole foods of course. he hates counting calories so he says this works best for him and his clients.
overall i think i like the idea. i have been working with it for a few days and overall not to bad. my issue is work though b/c there is that long period between a quick break for lunch and when i get out of work. i really have to try to keep snacks packed away in case i don't go straight home after work. plus days dh is off and we are out, the two of them love to eat out(and its usually chinese or mexican) while not bad choices, its just hard to not over eat especially with their portions. just going to have to work on that as i go but i think if i get control of it at home, i can do it when i go out. i almost hated food when i was sick so now that i am slowly getting better i want to focus now on getting on track. and not wanting to eat much now might help me kickstart that plan LOL. once my body gets into the habit i may not go back to just eating whatever. portions are my issue, even though i will pick good choices. a calorie is still a calorie and i can't take in more then i need which even with healthier foods can still happen.
while i may not be able to connect with the man or his endless dribble of marines and being push into working out at a young age, overall i like the book for guidance on bootcamp workouts and i think i like this idea of eating overall using smaller plates. b/c hey when you go out you can just pick a smaller plate!(although i may order appetizers as an entree)this way i can use my hand as guidance to eat just enough and doggie bag the rest.
