back to snowed in!

hey hey...

wednesday night i added in some gold's gym cardio on the wii just b/c and then did 20 minute easy workout of ultimate flexiblity. this is a very basic, easy to follow quick stretch and mobility workout. not all standard stretching, arm circles and movement are part of this game to give you peak performance and mobility. there is more to stretching then holding for 30 seconds. martial arts is more proof of that then anything.

yesterday was no workout formally(including the wii) but did an hour to an hour and half walk to the store and back. anybody that has carried 2 bags of groceries and gallon of milk with a whining kid in tow has to figure this is something of a workout as well as a test of patience LOL. i had wished to get in yoga but i was so tired after that trial i wound up napping until dinner time.

a rest day is important so while i was more upset about not getting a stretch in, i wasn't upset about mixing up my off days. so this morning i started a fresh, granted slowly. you see the depression of being out of work and the worry of money does take a toll on its person and this weather is mainly the cause. while i like snow, its fun way to get out and exercise, its also causing me major headaches by causing schools to close(which i do work at) and that forces me out of work with no pay. no pay in these times is like feeling like doom and gloom end of the world.

so once again to ease myself and mind into a better frame i plugged into the wii again. this time i mixed several of their preset workouts and just went with it. i got a little of everything from cardio based games, balance, strength focus and yoga in about 51 min.

enjoying some reading with kim lyons book(yes the former biggest loser trainer,so far wonderful read) i had myself some lunch, checked some mail and moved onto a dvd workout.

this time going with another biggest loser trainer, jillian. i had a jillian workout before and tried some on netflix but neither yielded a wow factor. i did get 30 day shred in a trade b/c the good reviews and clips still had me interested. while considerably better then her first offerings on dvd, i wasn't wowed completely by exercises but the intensity and clear cueing(as well as safety which was an issue in my mind for her earlier workouts) was great. i did level 1 and highly enjoyed the simplicity and length. it combines 2 min of cardio(30 second of two moves for 2 round) and 3 min of strength(i didn't catch the time but you ran through abs,and upper/lower body combinations). the moves were tough, she didn't rush you through and the lack of rest fatigued muscle faster(i think i dropped weights at some point during shoulders b/c i just couldn't do it anymore LOL).

overall i am glad this was a trade and its a readily inexpensive dvd. great for those that love a follow along dvd, enjoy shorter easy to get to workouts, no nonsense need little equipment workouts. as a person who loves variety, this adds some but i don't find it terribly different to come up with your own similar routines if you have that kind of experience. thumbs up jillian, do more workouts like this!
